What is the C3 competition and who is it for?

  • C3 is an international competition for catering and hospitality professionals over the age of 21.  
  • The competition has three rounds:
    Round 1: Submit a plated dessert recipe and a molded chocolate bonbon recipe on a given theme. Contenders whose recipes are chosen by the jury then compete with one another by region and make their recipes in real conditions.
     The winner of each regional challenge qualifies to enter the final round. The 6th annual competition will be held in Singapore where more challenges await them. 

What are the important dates for the competition?

  • April 2 through midnight June 30, 2019: Entries and submissions posted on
  • July 22, 2019: First selection round based on submissions. Six contenders are selected in each region.
  • September 1, 2019 through December 1, 2019: Each regional group of six competes against each other in a tasting round.
  • March 5, 2020: International final round at FHA (Food and Hotel Asia) in Singapore.

Is the competition only for Valrhona customers?

  • No, the competition is open to anyone working in the catering or hospitality industry whether they are Valrhona customers or not.

What are the geographic areas for the regional challenges?

The regional rounds are based on the country where the chef works. The zones are as follows:

  • France selection round 
  • Italy selection round
  • Scandinavia selection round
  • Rest of the World selection round
  • Middle East/Africa selection round
  • North America selection round
  • Asia/Japan selection round
  • Spain/Portugal selection round
